Red-E-Bins is a waste management solutions company that provides 5-yard and 10-yard dumpster bins. The bins are designed with space constraints in mind and they are perfect for small construction and demolition projects, home cleanouts, junk removal, recycling, and metal scrapping.
Sean O’Connell started Red-E-Bins in 2013 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He saw a changing trend and the obvious need for a professional service that could help homeowners and business in their junk removal needs. In June of 2018, Adam Weiner acquired a portion of the rights to the U.S. market.
The Red-E-Bins brand was established in order to bring consistency and professionalism to the marketplace. The management team has since developed sales processes, documentation, and the systems needed to effectively present the value proposition to commercial and residential customers through outbound sales techniques.
By franchising the business model, Red-E-Bins could expand to more markets through local owner-operators who would operate under the same brand, business model and systems. Because the market is expanding so quickly, the need for fast market coverage and expansion is needed in order to establish a strong market share.
The Red-E-Bins concept is one that relies on consistency, accountability and a dedication to service through a territory-based service structure. The operating prototypes in Winnipeg and St. Louis Park have given the leadership of Red-E-Bins a strong understanding for the industry and the junk removal business model.
Franchisees will have plenty of differentiators from the competition in the junk removal industry. The Red-E-Bins appointment scheduling system is being designed with the customer’s convenience and valuable time in mind. Additionally, franchisees will have the potential revenue streams of disposing valuable goods (i.e. cardboard, e-waste, metals, etc.).
The staff is helpful, friendly, and above all – professional. They are uniformed and have a comprehensive background check before they are allowed employment. To this end, the franchisees will be fully licensed and insured (the franchisees will be required to have vehicle insurance as well as general liability coverage).
The business model allows for someone to enter the industry with an initial investment of $103,950, on average, based on a cash investment in the business (vehicle, trailer, and initial inventory of bins needed to operate a location of Red-E-Bins). This number also includes the franchise fee. The typical facility needed for a franchisee to start their business will be a small space that should provide room to store the trucks at an industrial location. We anticipate 2,000 to 4,000 square feet of outdoor space and an optional office of 200 to 400 square feet.
The vehicle and trailer mechanism is extremely simple to operate. The standard for Red-E-Bins franchisees will be a quarter ton truck and a trailer that is built to suit and will be purchased from the Franchisor or an affiliate. A franchisee should be very efficient in preven- tative maintenance of the trucks and trailers as downtime is a huge detriment to potential revenue.
The concept is reliant on a strong sales and marketing oriented leader who is proficient at interacting with and selling to clients. The success of the corporate location can be directly related to the professionalism, ongoing marketing efforts and dedication to service exhibited throughout their time in business and in the industry. In order to have successful franchise owners, they too must exhibit this dedication to sales and customer service in building their own business.
A Revolutionary Opportunity in Franchising
A member of Red-E-Bins field support staff will visit each franchisee one time per year with an onsite visit to assist with operational issues and sales support. It is estimated that Red-E-Bins will need to hire one field supervisor for every 20-25 franchises in the field. This is a relatively “de-leveraged” support model which should allow for the high quality of support and guidance provided to franchisees. The Franchisor will incorporate a formalized mechanism for ensuring quality control among franchisees that will be implemented by these field supervisors.
In addition to field support, members of the Franchisor organization will provide the services listed below. The Franchisor must assign a specific person to cover each of these support areas (one person can be assigned to more than one task). The names of support staff members who are officers, directors, or have significant management responsibility in conjunction with franchisees will be disclosed in the Red-E-Bins Disclosure Document. The Franchisor has the responsibility to assign a person/people to each task during the development of the franchise program.
The Franchisor will provide ongoing training and support in many areas critical to the success of the franchisee's business, including management and oversight, maintenance, customer-service techniques, product ordering, suggested pricing guidelines and administrative procedures.
Red-E-Bins Marketing Support
Red-E-Bins will coordinate development of advertising materials and strategies for the benefit of all members of the franchise network. It will also supply franchisees with consumer marketing plans and materials for use at the local or regional level, and retains the right to approve all local advertising materials that the franchisee chooses to develop. Eventually, all marketing materials and collateral may be uploaded on to an intranet that would provide the franchisees the ability to download documents whenever needed.
Red-E-Bins Purchasing
The Franchisor or its affiliate will negotiate quantity discounts on behalf of all of its members. This will include elements such as marketing materials, containers, and other needed items for operating a Red-E-Bins location.
Red-E-Bins Accounting/Audit/Legal
Reporting directly to administration, this department is responsible for the financial and legal oversight of franchisees. Red-E-Bins will be providing support and guidance to franchisees on how to manage their books, but they will ultimately be instructed to hire their own CPA for their individual business.
Ongoing Research and Development
Red-E-Bins management and leadership will continue to research methods and techniques for franchise operations (including purchasing and promotional schemes) that enhance unit-level profitability.
